Extra Internal EGR accounts for 5% efficiency increase
In part load EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is generally used to reduce pumping losses.
With the GoEngine running at high CR, TDC gasexchange is much lower than normal. The difference between tdc firing and tdc gasexchange (within one cycle) can be as high as 6 mm at max CR. In this way exhaust gasses will stay behind in the extra volume created by the lower tdc gasexchange. An extra advantage is also that the intake stroke is reduced by 6 mm.

Internal EGR - tdc gasexchange up to 6 mm lower as tdc firing running at high CR
When the Compression Ratio is reduced, the amount of internal EGR will reduce together with the difference in TDC gasexchange and TDC firing.
Because of this special feature there are no valve pockets needed in the piston crown to avoid contact between the valves and the piston.
